Demonic Entities

Alongside the Anunnaki gods and the Igigi, the demons of Sumerian mythology are the third class of immortal beings who can possess magical powers. These magical powers can be linked to certain objects, such as the Huluppu tree. While the gods are usually depicted as humans, demons often have an animal form or are assigned to the invisible powers.

The best-known demons in Sumerian mythology are the eagle Anzu, the Usumgallu serpent and Lilith, all of whom inhabit the Huluppu tree.
